The project comprised of a new 3 storey Teaching block at the Maidstone Girls Grammar School. Hague Construction were contracted to carry out the groundworks and reinforced concrete frame package working within a restricted site due to the school remaining occupied whilst the works were carried out.
The groundworks included complex stepped reinforced foundations, construction of new drainage, diversion of existing drainage and the installation of new service trench.
A bespoke foamed concrete infill was also proposed and provided beneath the ground floor slab by Hague Construction to overcome site restrictions and improve programme.
The 3 storey concrete frame consisted of downstand beams and bespoke circular columns with many areas also requiring a high quality exposed finish. A complex spiral reinforced concrete staircase was also constructed around a reinforced concrete lift shaft.
In total 1,300m3 of concrete and 200 tonnes of reinforcement were used.
