Overview

The project comprised of the construction of an undercover waste transfer station & materials handling facility to cater for the domestic refuse generated by population of Brighton.

The site, formerly an abattoir, some 4acres in size is located in the Hollingdean area of Brighton. Bordered by the railway & private roads with a fall across its length of over 20metres, made this a challenging project. Hague construction were contracted carry out the demolition, groundworks & reinforced concrete structures package. 

The initial site clearance & demolition generated 5,000m3 of concrete which was recycled on site & used as sub-base . The reduce level excavations equated to 20,000m3 was disposed off site. The reinforced concrete structures package contained 6,000 cubic metres of concrete & 750tonnes of steel reinforcement. 3,000m2 of 7m high concrete push walls were constructed, many to radius. The external service roads yards covered approximated 2 acres all in reinforced concrete. Foul & surface water drainage installations totalled 1,500 metres in length with 1000 cubic metres of stormwater attenuation.
